Chocolatier 3: Decadence by Design Game Review

Chocolatier 3 continues the epic story of the Baumeister family chocolate empire, as previously told in the first 2 installments of the hit Chocolatier game series.

Another generation has passed since the events that transpired in Chocolatier 2, and it is now the 1950′s, with the world recovering after World War II. Unfortunately for the Baumeister family, the husband of the matriarch Alexandra Tangye (whom you helped in Chocolatier 2) did not return from the war. Alex has decided to go in search for him, leaving the company in your hands. And so the story unfolds.

As before, you earn your millions by scouring the world for various raw ingredients to put in your chocolate products. You then play a fast mini-game in order to produce the chocolate in your factories. The finished products are then sold at the best possible price in the many markets around the world. As in the previous installments of the game, the complexity of the game (and the chocolates) gets harder as you progress through the game. In addition, more and more locations around the world and more recipes are accessible the more stages of the game you complete.

Now for what makes Chocolatier 3 different from its predecessors. The Baumeisters have decided to expand their business. They now create coffee drinks as well as chocolate!

So now you not only have to search the world for the best cocoa beans and sugar to make the best chocolates, you will also have to look for the best coffee beans and spices to make the best drinks.

With the introduction of coffee making, there is also a new factory mini-game for coffee-making in addition to the traditional chocolate-making mini-game. This new mini-game is also reflex and speed-based, requiring you to arrange the coffee beans, cream and sugar on a conveyor belt that gets faster and faster.

Another new feature in Chocolatier 3 is the ability to make your own chocolate and coffee creations!

In Chocolatier 2, you had the chance of using a laboratory to discover hidden recipes. Chocolatier 3 takes this a few steps further by allowing you to experiment with any combination of ingredients. Of course, not every combination is going to taste good or sell well. What’s more… you get to name your own creations! Let’s hope your new glow-in-the-dark Frappa-Moccha-Latte goes down well with the crowd…

Chocolatier 3 is a nice economic simulation game with a good blend of adventure and story, as well as interesting arcade mini-games to alleviate the gameplay that can sometimes end up becoming boring with too much number-crunching.
